Vintage Inspired Sportswear
I absolutely love playing sports and working out, but I’ve often felt that my collection of workout clothes feels the least like my authentic style of any part of my wardrobe. So much sportswear leans modern in design, and unlike other areas of my wardrobe where I’d be happy diving through a vintage shop for decades-old pieces, with sportswear I’m buying new. Below are my top picks that combine the functional benefits of modern sportswear with classic styles and a decent price point.
Mood Board
Sportswear, from what I can tell, was absolutely thriving from around the 30s through the 90s. Gimme stripes, Americana, a collar or two!
Tennis
I am obsessed with tennis and conveniently it’s the easiest sport in which to find simple, classic pieces. Wilson is leading the game in my opinion; I absolutely love their vintage vibe and the fact that they are based here in Chicago. Lots of other brands with athletic lines are putting their own spin on tennis dresses lately. I lusted after the red, white and blue one from Reformation for about a year before finally pulling the trigger on it and I’m so glad I did!
Running
If I were to create a running brand I think the result would be something like Tracksmith. Their diagonal striped running tops make me feel like I’m the star of the varsity track team, class of ~77.
Soccer
Soccer can be tricky because it’s a bit more limited in terms of what is available on the women’s side. Thankfully Adidas has some iconic soccer gear that they’ve been making since I was a kid and will wear forever and ever amen.
